DAUGHTER

DAUGHTER

– DIGITAL GENERATION

Daughter, your world is better than ours

Laws against rape and assault

Equality and equity of genders

Yet, I ask

Why is your cloth stained?

Why do I see you mop all night?

Did 358 of the South not protect you?

Daughter, in our days a woman’s pride was protected

Not by a written constitution

Or a threat of life imprisonment

For our Fathers taught the boys to zip their trousers

Our mothers taught the girls to move right,

Respect all and dress right

But you called it old school

Daughter, your world is better than ours

Mini-skirts and gowns, you look smart to school

Pen every thought, compete against the male folks

Submission to the Man is old school, they tell you

For in our days, the kitchen smoke educated us

Our opinions scribbled on the river banks

Our Fathers, heroes and husbands, Lords

Wallowing at night, we swallow every dream

Praying for a better world for you

Daughter, do not be misled

Happiness and Joy comes with a balance

Shout, scream, let your voice be heard

But do not forget the virtues of content and submission
